Privacy statement

Data gathered in the use of this website is collected, processed and used by us, Rickmers Holding AG and all its subsidiaries, as providers of this site within the meaning of the  German Telemedia Act (Telemediengesetz - TMG) and the German Federal Data Protection Act (Bundesdatenschutzgesetz - BDSG). The protection of personal data is an important matter for the Rickmers Group. This is why we handle personal data in a responsible manner, complying with legal data protection provisions.

This privacy statement provides an indication of the type of data we gather when you use the site, the purposes we use the data for, exactly how we collect, process and use the data, and what your rights are with respect to the data.

Gathering and processing data when using our website

Generally it is possible to use our site without providing any personal data. As is the case with many sites, when individual websites are retrieved our webservers and the Piwik web analytics software we deploy automatically gather and process the following non-personal data.

a) Automatic logs

Our webservers automatically save information temporarily in a log file each time one of the pages on our site is accessed/retrieved. Once the information has been evaluated statistically it will be deleted automatically. Until then, the following details are stored:

  • Name and URL of the file accessed
  • Date and time of the site/page was accessed
  • Data volumes transferred
  • Message indicating whether the retrieval of the web pages was successful
  • Information identifying the browser and operating system you are using
  • URL of website you used if you linked from another site
  • The name of your internet access provider

This data cannot be assigned to any one particular person and as such is not deemed to be personal data. This data is not merged with any other data, nor is data forwarded, nor is a personal user profile compiled.

Data is processed solely for the purpose of facilitating the use of the website (establishing a connection), for internal system-related purposes that affect technical administration and system security, and for statistical purposes, such as to be able to adapt the website better to meet your needs by anonymously evaluating general user behaviour.

b) Cookies

Our webservers deposit cookies in the cache of your browser. These are small text files containing data that serve to manage your session technically, in particular that serve to identify the browser while you are visiting the site.

These cookies are automatically deleted 14 days after your visit to our website.

These ease your navigation through our site and make it possible to evaluate general user behaviour anonymously base on the number of visitors and thus enable us to optimise the site to meet your needs. No details of real people can be inferred from the information contained in cookies.

You can of course peruse our website without us storing cookies. However, most browsers accept cookies automatically. You can prevent cookies from being stored on your system, or have your browser issue a warning when cookies are being saved by changing the appropriate settings to your browser. You can find more information on this function in your browser's help menu. Preventing cookies may however restrict the use of some or parts of our website functions and web pages, or may block them from being used at all.

c) Statistical evaluation

We use the open source web analytics software Piwik to evaluate user access statistically. Piwik deposits cookies in the cache of your browser which allows us to analyse website use. Piwik and the information on your use of our site generated by the cookies are stored on our servers in Germany. The IP address is made anonymous prior being stored in the Piwik database. As described above, you can prevent cookies from being stored on your system by changing the appropriate settings to your browser.

In addition, you can decide whether a unique web analytics cookie may be stored on your browser to enable us to capture and analyse various statistical data. If you do not want this, click on the following link to store the Piwik deactivation cookie on your browser.
